From Rick Evans... Mr. Evans was a road engineer on the Norfolk Southern's Eastern Division Albemarle district and Washington district (post merger) and has recently completed a book about some of his experiences during this time. The book was primarily written as a keepsake for his grandchildren. Being raised a 4th generation railroader, he went to work on the railroad when he was 16 and retired disabled in 1992. Most of these photos were taken during the 1980s.

"This was taken near Culpeper VA on a worktrain waiting on chicken bone 819 from DC to Monroe." - Rick
"This pic was taken at Monroe VA during one of the last crew changes before we were relocated from the dorm there to a motel in Lynchburg." - Rick

"This was taken at Union Station as we were cutting our power off to take to Ivy City with Mr. Brown at the throttle (waiting on his fireman to hurry up with the pic taken) so the northbound could get their electric units on.  As a side note, this was just about the time Jerome Evans (no kin) was killed in a crash at the Gunpowder River bridge when a set of light units operated by Ricky Gates ran the signal and was rearended by the Amtrak with tragic consequence.  The Amtrak was traveling about 130 when this went down if  memory serves me correct." - Rick
Conrail SD40-2
"This pic was taken on a Conrail SD40-2 between Manassas VA and Hagerstown MD." - Rick
"This pic was taken from northbound 178 from an id train from Roanoke VA to Potomac yd while climbing the mountain at Hamner VA, also referred to as Waltons Mountain, meeting a southbound." - Rick

No, my son is not a giant. They had (still have?) a 'Live Steamers' club and this is their track Tyler is standing on.
